The Department of Biotechnology, Sant Hirdaram Girls College was established in the year 2006. Since then, the department is providing nurtured professionals in the frontier areas of Biotechnology and offers U.G and P.G courses. All the basic infrastructural facilities needed for conducting teaching and research programmes in different areas of Biotechnology have been developed in the department. The department attracts students from all over Madhya Pradesh. Due to the excellent quality teaching programme, the department has been able to generate excellent human resources in Biotechnology.
To develop motivated professionals for facing the global challenges in the frontier areas of Biotechnology and to create awareness in the human society about the innovative applications of biotechnology.
The department has well equipped student laboratories, special labs for Molecular Biology, Tissue Culture and Microbiology. The laboratories are enriched with sophisticated Hi-tech equipments like Thermal cycler, Gel doc imaging system, Elisa plate reader etc.
So far, 12 batches of students have completed their M.Sc. degree course and many of them are working as research fellows in prestigious institutions and industries. The areas of research specialization in the department include Microbiology, Plant tissue culture and Molecular Biology. Biotechnology department has successfully organized internship programmes and Trainings for UG & PG students of college. The Department also organized various workshops and trainings at National and State level for the students of our college and other colleges too.
